What Kind of Fan Are You?

This is something I've asked myself after all the drama that's happened to me (manufactured and otherwise) since my Robotech.com and whiny blogger days.

I guess I am trying to shift to a "cautiously-optimistic" approach to the franchise. As much as I despise certain things Harmony Gold has done in the past, I feel having an overtly-negative approach is too destructive for its own good.

Why? Because for me, just taking a stance against something like Harmony Gold is detracting from my creative ideas/projects. I wasted too much time trying to get my point of view across on my blog, and in the end, nothing really changed.

The advantages in adopting this point of view is that, the harder Harmony Gold falls, the funnier it gets. If you anticipate that Shadow Rising will be the smash DVD hit of the summer, and are let down by its sheer predictability, wouldn't it be funnier? It's good comedy I tell ya.

But adopting a "this all sucks ass" just makes you stressed out because HG will never listen to you. And loyal fans will think you're full of crap too. And... what if? What if the movie is actually good? What if Kevin McKeever was right?

At least, by being "cautiously optimistic" about the franchise (despite being banned, etc), you won't have to worry about HG not meeting your expectations. If they screw up, it would be all the more hilarious.

So I say to you, my dear fanboy - just chill. Wait and see what happens to this rusty ol' franchise.

I know this isn't something people would really agree with, but it's my current view and belief now, and so, I will wait.

In my definition of "loyal fan" someone who supports Shadow Chronicles doesnt fit in any form. The only thing I can think it's there are confused fans who are yet to realize what the Yunes and Shadow Chronicles is about, yet, I cant put that people in the level of great fans. When more you love Robotech, when you are a greater fan of it, more you are able to see Shadow Chronicles isnt Robotech.

I dont expect HG to listen to me, I expect people to realize what the Yunes are trying to do and others like us being there to shape an alternative they can choose. Yune's power doesnt come from a magical source given by God that makes them able not to respond to anyone or anything. They will have power as long as the dominant group of fans respond to them, and as long as the HG owners think the fans respond to them. Take that away from them and they are powerless.

Regardless of where you stand, I can see you really matured as a fan. It's just too bad they ban people on Robotech.com who have that viewpoint, as evidence by his numerous replies in the forums. S**t!

Yeah, well I hope you dont think I will allow, as long as it's up to me, anything to be posted here because 'it's about maturity'. If I see things I know to be lies being posted as truth, by people who either do so because they are close to Yune, or because they bought the propaganda made by the Yunes, that we are the sons of the devil inventing bad things about them and have to be exterminated of the online sites, that's where my 'maturity' is going to end. My commitment is with Robotech, with the truth about what's going on with Robotech, and not with formal procedures about what a person which regulates a board is supposed to behave. Nenad isnt going to shut up the truth for formality either, so this isnt something against these board regulations, but about what other people now outside the boards could pretend we do with these boards for their convenience.

*sigh* we'll see. the propaganda machine will be starting up soon with the special edition DVD and stuff. The new toys too, as evidenced by the "wonderful" new art by Tommy.

I think they are scared of coming here to defend them because we know most of their practices and we could put them in evidence.

Oops! I already popped my fuse on another thread about what type of fan I am.

I guess I am a lifer. The message of the story is more important than who got bought and who got sold.

It is like a band playing your favorite song at a gig and you hear a fan talking to the band after the set telling them what EXACTLY that song means to them. The band member just smiles and says "Great! I am glad to hear that!" but to him he might have wrote that song or sings it for a different reason WHILE at the same time you are going WAIT A MINUTE, WTF? that is not what that song is about and you feel all confused because not only is someone else getting something totally different from it but YOUR the guy you feel you relate to through the music feels TOTALLY different about the same thing.

Am I beating the ground enough here?

That is what type of fan I am. Robotech is something I have left and come back to many times in my life but I feel each time I come back to it I understand myself better. Just like when you hear two different views, NOT INCLUDING YOUR OWN, on the same subject. I am not saying, kiss kiss and get along, but just enjoy it for what it is worth to you.

That is all that counts. Feed the white dog, feed the black dog. Just make sure you keep it all in perspective. Just like each character struggles to in Robotech. Nuff said for the nite I think, g'nite said the demon to the angels.

When I see Robotech, I see a legitimate SCI-FI idea , alens, big spaceships, LOTS of guns and war, the spirit of exploration and endurance, and lastly the enginuity of humanity as it faces the powers of the universe. If this seems to sappy, I just want to say that my father ( a 40ish year old hard charging Devildog! Oorah!!) who is deeply into SCI-FI books and series ( John Ringo and Travis S. Taylor's numerous novels, The Herritage trilogy and thier sequels, the Starfist series, BOLOS, ect...) and he is atleast interested in Robotech, I do like and even love the details of this series (The Southern Cross ,folks) but I see it as a part of my life and what I am , and if someone says "Whats that" I grin and say "Alot more that what you think"

I've always been hooked on Robotech from the very first episode I saw as a child. It just had a wonderful mix in story, character and sci-fi elements.

I have seen the tv-series and loved that. So like everyone was glad to hear that they were trying to produce something new. Which eventually ended up in the Shadow Chronicles "movie".

Never understood why they called it a movie as it felt more like a tv episode to me, as it looks like the real war is just about to begin but then the story stops. Yet more importantly the storyline just does not fit at all with the previous Robotech series. It is like they made a totally different universe, it just contains too many inconsistencies.

For someone who is new to Robotech the Shadow Chronicles may be fine but as a fan I am not too happy in where this is going. Aldo I did like some of the character ideas and story ideas, I just wished they would have taken a little more time to make the story fit.

Sometimes I wish we could have just have half of their budget to really give our team a way to create a full Robotech Anime movie. Just to be able to show them how it should really be done.
