Robotech is a 1985 released Anime (Japanese animation) series and one of the first series that many fans have seen. Often accredited as the cause of the anime fandom that continues to grow today world wide.

Much of Robotech center's around the development and use of Robotechnology a technology that is discovered when an alien battleship crashes on Earth in 1999 on a small South Pacific Island called Macross. Locked deep with in this alien ship are the secrets of Robotechnology. One of the best known aspects of Robotech is its use of Mecha. These are suits of powered armor of varying sizes that are used to combat alien forces, or used by aliens to battle humans. Unlike Alien Mecha, human Mecha is often transformable allowing extreme versatility when combating other Mecha.
ROBOTECH IS SCIENCE FICTION !
The pivotal element of Robotech is a mysterious a substance called 'Protoculture'. This is a bio-fuel discovered aboard the SDF-1 (Super Dimension Fortress one), that's how the crashed alien spacecraft is called by the humans who repaired it. The most interesting aspect of protoculture is its ability to form a link between man and machine when used as a machines power source.
Protoculture is extracted from an alien plant called 'The Flower of Life'. This alien plant is only known to grow well on two planets in known space, Earth and a distant world called Optera. Because of its unique properties, the Robotech Wars are fought over Protoculture.
ROBOTECH, THE GREAT WARS !
You can blame Zor, the renegade Robotech Master, for the wars that humans must endure in order to defend earth. He was trying to cripple the tyrannical empire the other Masters built by sending his exploration ship (jam packed with alien technology and cosmic secrets) out into the void of space. But all he really accomplishes is attracting the rival races to Earth due to the fact that the alien craft crash-lands on it.
The humans modified the SDF-1 so it could be used for defense against the until then unknown aliens. However, just as the SDF-1 is about to take off on a test flight the aliens attack. In an effort to escape the SDF-1, using its unknown alien technology, accidentally teleports all the way to Pluto. From there the story of humanities struggle for survival begins.
